Retention triangle for transparent ZEC. X-axis: the as-of (snapshot) date — the same calendar-time axis as the chart of transparent unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs) by age, so the two line up.
Y-axis: the week coins were created (the cohort), latest on top — so each vertical column is a single point in time, and reading down goes back in creation time. Color: what percentage of that cohort's ZEC was still unspent as of that date — the stronger the colour, the more is still sitting; a fully spent cohort fades into the background.
Most cohorts are >95% spent within weeks. Built by replaying all ~3.3M blocks and tracking every transparent output create and spend.
This chart is plotted against a retention triangle: snapshot date against the week each coin was created.
🔗 permalink ⇆ compareEvery column is one date; every row is the week a batch of transparent coins was created, newest at the top. The colour says what share of that week's ZEC was still unspent on that date — the stronger the colour, the more is still sitting, and a fully spent week fades into the background. Reading down a column goes back through creation time; reading across a row follows one cohort as it drains.
The triangle shape is not data. A cohort cannot exist before it was created, so the empty corner is arithmetic. What is data is how fast each row fades.
Most cohorts are over 95% spent within weeks, which is the useful baseline: a row that keeps its colour for years is the exception and is where lost coins and long-term holders live — the two being indistinguishable from here.
Transparent only, and spending includes shielding. A cohort fading may be coins being shielded rather than sold; check the shielding rate before reading it as distribution. Built by replaying every block from genesis and tracking each transparent output's creation and spend. The same data as a stacked view is transparent ZEC by age.
