Zcash vs Bitcoin: Daily Transactions

Daily transaction count (log) aligned by coins issued, comparing how heavily each chain was used at equivalent points in its 21M-coin emission.

Read the full description

Hover shows the calendar date each chain was at that issuance. Both series EXCLUDE coinbase (miner-reward) transactions — one per block — so they reflect user activity (ZEC minus its block count; BTC minus ~144/block-day). BTC transaction counts come from blockchain.info. The time-range filter does not apply.

Tx vs BTC @ issuance was 0.086× on 2026-09-27, the last full day of data. That is 212.8% higher than 28 days ago, when it was 0.028×.

This chart is plotted against coins issued, not date, so the two chains are compared at equivalent emission.

What is the x-axis?

This plots daily transaction count against coins issued rather than the date. At the same calendar moment Bitcoin is sixteen years into its emission schedule and Zcash ten, so a date axis would compare two different stages of maturity — a young network against a mature one and call it a fair fight.

Both chains cap at 21M, which is the only reason this alignment means anything. At any x, both had mined the same fraction of their total supply; the question the chart asks is what each looked like at that point in its own life.

So nothing here is a statement about today. Two points at the same x are years apart on the calendar, and the right-hand end of the Zcash line is the present while the same x on the Bitcoin line is somewhere in its past.

A transaction is not the same unit on both chains. Bitcoin batches heavily, and Zcash's count mixes transparent transfers with shielded ones that may carry many payments each. This is activity, not users, and not payments.

For the same measures on an ordinary date axis, see supply and price.
